Winter Control Update: January 29, 2025

Our plow operators continue working hard to manage the impacts of winter weather following more overnight snowfall and continued strong winds. While route completion was slightly slower due to the past few days of heavy accumulation, all routes were completed.

Current Status

  • Operations teams have revisited areas experiencing significant drifting, particularly in known trouble spots.
  • Crews have also started widening access to roads that were re-opened yesterday.
  • Winds have picked up significantly over the past two hours, creating severe drifts and poor visibility in some areas.
  • Open roads with significant snowbanks continue to pose challenges where drifting is rapidly worsening.
  • Road conditions remain highly variable, with stretches of bare pavement suddenly leading to near-zero visibility and deep snowdrifts.

Overnight Cul-De-Sac Clearing

  • A contracted service provider will be working to clear culs-de-sac on Kramer Court, Beachwood Drive, and Forest Hill Drive tonight. Work will begin by 6:00 p.m., and continue until 2:00 – 3:00 a.m. to ensure these areas are cleared.

  • We recognize that this work may cause some noise disruptions due to backup alarms, loader bucket operation, and other equipment. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this necessary work.

Weather Conditions

  • The region remains under a snow squall warning. If squalls develop, visibility will be further reduced, and snow accumulation will increase.
  • These challenging conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon and evening, and some roads may become difficult or impassable overnight.
  • If you must travel, be prepared for delays and poor visibility, especially on open and exposed roads. Consider postponing non-essential travel.

Road Closures (As of 3:00 PM)
The following roads remain closed and impassable:

  • Thompson Sideroad
  • Hindman Sideroad
  • Cavell Sideroad

For the most up-to-date road closure information, please check Municipal 511.

We appreciate your patience as our crews continue working to keep roads as safe as possible.
