Weight Restrictions on Township Roads to Begin March 1

Weight restrictions of 5 tonne per axle will be implemented on Township roads in Georgian Bluffs starting Friday, March 1, 2024, for the spring season. These restrictions will remain in effect until May 1, 2024, to keep roads from getting damaged during the vulnerable spring thaw.

As the average daily temperatures rise to above zero and the spring rains begin, our roads become susceptible to damage due to the softening of the road base from excess moisture. To prevent damage and ensure the longevity of our roadways, weight limits will be strictly enforced during this period.

Given the variable nature of spring weather, these restrictions could extend until May 31, 2024, if required.  Township staff will be monitoring the condition of our roads and will lift the weight restrictions when conditions warrant.
