Township Raises Flag for Truth and Reconciliation

The Township of Georgian Bluffs is flying the Every Child Matters Flag for the month of September in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2022.

The Flag will be raised at the Shallow Lake Arena and the Kemble Women’s Institute lookout on Grey Road 1. The community is also encouraged to visit the recently unveiled Ajiijak painting by artist Charmaine Jenner displayed at the former Oxenden General Store. This public art project in the spirit of reconciliation was made possible through community support.

In September of 2021, Georgian Bluffs Council passed a motion committed to recognizing September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (National Orange Shirt Day) by sharing the stories of residential school survivors, their families, and communities. Township offices will remain open on September 30, with staff and residents encouraged to take part in educational and reconciliation events in the community.
