The Township of Georgian Bluffs is actively examining the management of Short-Term Accommodations (STAs) within the community and is seeking feedback from residents and accommodation operators to inform decision-making.

Short-Term Accommodations include various lodging spaces such as condominiums, bungalows, single-family homes, cottages, cabins, and campsites that are rented to individuals or groups on a temporary basis, such as Airbnb's.

“STA’s are an important part of the community of Georgian Bluffs, supporting tourism and providing economic support to the community through job provision and areas like local retail,” said Acting Chief Administrative Officer, Niall Lobley. “However, we are aware that residents and communities have experienced challenges and have concerns about their neighbourhoods, and we need to ensure as a municipality we reflect the need of the community to balance STA operations and communities' sense of place.”

Mayor Sue Carleton also highlighted the importance of public input, stating, "We encourage all stakeholders to actively participate in this consultation and provide their feedback. By working together, we can strike a balance that ensures the sustainable growth of our community while preserving its unique character and natural beauty."

The Township is looking to gather input from all stakeholders, including STA operators, STA users, neighbours of STAs, business owners, and the public. You are invited to participate in a brief survey to provide your feedback, which will be presented to Council as they develop future policies and make decisions regarding STAs in Georgian Bluffs.

To have your voice heard and contribute to the community engagement process, the Township urges you to complete a short survey at www.engageGB.ca. Hard copy surveys are available at the Township Administration Office, Derby Community Centre, Shallow Lake Community Centre, and Kemble Arena. A Public Information Session will also be held on August 24th, to allow for in-person public input. More details to come.
