Recycling Right in Georgian Bluffs

The Township of Georgian Bluffs would like to remind everyone about the importance of recycling right to keep our community clean and green. Recently, you may have received a notice about oversized containers and uncollected contents at your curbside. But don't worry, we're here to help everyone get back on track!

When it comes to presenting your garbage and recycling for collection, follow these guidelines to make sure your waste can be safely picked up.

  1. Lighten the Load: Garbage bags should weigh less than 22 kilograms and measure less than 26 inches by 36 inches. Let's keep it manageable for our collection crew!
  2. Tag It Up: Each garbage bag should have its own tag to ensure a smooth collection process.
  3. Four Bags Max: You can present up to four bags of garbage for collection each week. We want to make sure there's enough space for everyone's waste.
  4. Unleash the Blue Boxes: Feel free to bring out all your plastic, paper, and other recycling materials in an unlimited number of Blue Boxes every two weeks, but make sure they are the right size for collection staff to handle without strain. You can buy your very own Blue Box from the Township office, or from other vendors. These handy boxes should be no taller than 2 feet and no wider than 18 inches.
  5. Bundle Your Cardboard: If you have cardboard to dispose of, please bundle it up neatly in bundles no bigger than 24 inches by 18 inches by 6 inches. Let's keep those bundles snug and compact!

We understand that some residents have been using oversized garbage and recycling bins in the past. While they may have served us well, it's time to make a switch to the approved containers to help keep our contracted collection provider’s staff's safe and healthy. Using larger, non-approved containers can pose risks and cause injuries.

Our Waste Management team has refreshed their training for all staff, including new recruits, so now is a great time for all of us to brush up on the rules. For the full guidelines on how to make sure your waste is gone on garbage day, visit georgianbluffs.ca/waste.
