Notice: Emergency Road Closures due to Freezing Rain

Georgian Bluffs is advising residents of poor road conditions across the Township this morning, following ice buildup that has caused hazardous conditions on roads from Kemble Mountain to Lake Charles, Oxenden, and extending to the Big Bay area.

The freezing rain has led to ice accumulation in trees, resulting in broken branches and fallen debris on many roadways. In some areas, hydro poles have been damaged and hydro lines are down, creating hazardous travel conditions. Debris continues to fall, increasing the risk for drivers.

Township operations crews have been working through the night and continue clearing roads today. The risk from falling ice and debris remains high. Residents are strongly advised to avoid travel until conditions improve.

In addition to the Township’s operations team, forestry contractors have been brought in to help remove fallen trees and debris. However, ice accumulation is ongoing and may lead to further damage throughout the day.

Your safety is our top priority. Please stay home if you can, and avoid driving in affected areas. Please report areas of debris or blocked roads through Contact GB. For the latest road closure updates, visit www.municipal511.com.
