Managing the Spring Melt: Georgian Bluffs Prepares for Warmer Weather

As spring weather approaches, Georgian Bluffs is preparing for potential challenges related to the melting snow. The high snowpack this season has resulted in drainage ditches and culverts becoming blocked in some areas, and if we experience rapid melting, particularly in combination with spring rainfall, localized flooding may occur.

The Public Works team is monitoring conditions closely and will proactively clear ditches and known culverts where blockages typically occur to help reduce potential flooding. However, residents are encouraged to take the following steps to help manage runoff:

  • Clear storm drains near your property of snow, ice, and debris to allow proper drainage.
  • Ensure driveway culverts are not blocked, allowing water to flow freely.
  • Ensure downspouts direct water away from foundations to minimize pooling and erosion.
  • Inspect sump pumps to ensure they are functioning properly, and make sure discharge outlets are free of ice and snow to prevent backups.

We appreciate your cooperation in taking proactive steps to minimize spring flooding risks, and in exercising caution in affected areas.
