Inter Township Fire Department Rescues Dog from 25-Foot Well

The Inter Township Fire Department responded to a distress call on August 12, 2023, at Spirit Valley Trail in Bognor, Ontario, to rescue a dog that had fallen into a 25-foot well. The dog, named Nala, accidentally leapt over a fence surrounding the well at approximately 6:00 p.m., leaving her owners in a state of shock and concern.

Volunteer firefighters from the Inter Township Fire Department received the page at 6:11 p.m. and had the first firefighters on scene by 6:25. Using an extraction tripod, firefighter Jason Redmond descended into the well to retrieve Nala. Thanks to the swift and professional response of the team, Nala was safely rescued after spending about an hour and a half in the well.

The family involved expressed their thanks to the firefighters and first responders who aided in the rescue. "We are reaching out to express our sincere gratitude for the extraordinary efforts demonstrated by your team in rescuing our cherished dog" said the family in a statement on their social media. "Your unwavering dedication and commitment to the safety of our community are truly commendable."

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining safety on public trails, keeping dogs leashed and children supervised in areas with potential wells and crevices.
