Georgian Bluffs is proud to announce that Council officially adopted the Township’s first ever Corporate Climate Action Plan during the Council meeting held on Wednesday, November 8th. This significant milestone represents a decisive step towards addressing the pressing issue of climate change and its impacts on our community.

The development of the Action Plan has been a collaborative effort, involving extensive public engagement and a commitment to adopting globally recognized standards and tools for climate action planning. The plan aims to guide the Township in reducing its environmental impact and adapting to the challenges posed by climate change.

Key Highlights of the Corporate Climate Action Plan:

  • Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The plan sets clear targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, demonstrating the Township's commitment to mitigating the impact of climate change.
  • Adaptation to Climate Change: In response to the changes already being felt, the plan outlines strategies for adapting to the impacts of climate change, focusing on infrastructure resilience.

The extent to which Georgian Bluffs is affected by climate change will depend on the actions taken today. The Action Plan provides a roadmap towards a more sustainable and resilient future for our community.

“Climate change is a generational concern, and this plan reflects our ambition to step up to the plate and meet that challenge for future generations" said Niall Lobley, Acting CAO and Director of Community & Environmental Services.

This milestone in adopting the Climate Action Plan also directs staff to implement the actions included in the plan, starting with the 2024 budget cycle. It is a testament to the Township’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of our community.
