Georgian Bluffs Recognizes Flag Day and 60 Years of the Canadian Maple Leaf

Georgian Bluffs is proud to recognize Flag Day, coming up on Saturday, February 15, 2025, celebrating 60 years of the red and white maple leaf that has become a defining symbol of Canada.

In recognition of this milestone, members of Georgian Bluffs Council and community invite you to attend a flag-raising at Owen Sound City Hall on Friday, February 14, at 4:00 p.m. at the invitation of the City. This event highlights the shared values that unite communities across the region and reinforce the spirit of cooperation that defines what it means to be Canadian.

“Our flag is more than just a symbol—it’s a reflection of who we are,” said Mayor Sue Carleton. “It represents our shared values of unity, strength, and integrity, and stands as a reminder of our collective journey as a nation. Over the decades, through times of challenge and triumph, it has been a source of pride and inspiration.”

Since its adoption in 1965, the Canadian flag has become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world. Whether carried by athletes at international competitions, stitched onto the backpacks of travellers, or raised at community gatherings, it represents the principles of peace, kindness, and diversity that define Canada.

Together, Georgian Bluffs and the City of Owen Sound encourage residents to celebrate Canadian values this weekend—by proudly displaying their own flags at home, supporting Canadian businesses, and shopping locally at the farmer’s market and local retailers.

“As we recognize Flag Day, let’s take the opportunity to support Canadian businesses, celebrate Canadian culture, and strengthen our local communities,” said Mayor Carleton. “These are the things that make Canada the incredible home we are fortunate to share.”
