FoodCycler Pilot Fills Up Fast
The response to Georgian Bluff’s FoodCycler Pilot Program has been overwhelming, with all 100 available spots filled before you can say “compost”!
The FoodCycler Pilot Program, launched on Monday, May 15, is a partnership between the Township of Georgian Bluffs and Food Cycle Science where 100 indoor composting units are offered to the community at a discounted rate. Participants then track their use over 12 weeks, and complete a survey to share their experience. After that, the FoodCycler is theirs to keep.
This week Georgian Bluffs residents showed their true colours are green by claiming all available units in just four days. For the lucky early adopters, the FoodCyclers will be available for pickup on July 15th, 2023 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Shallow Lake Arena and Community Centre.
"The Georgian Bluffs community has an incredible commitment to sustainability” said Acting CAO/Director of Community Services Niall Lobley. “We knew there would be a lot of interest, but it really has been an astounding response that shows just how focused we are on going green.”
While the FoodCycler Program registration may be full, you are still able to join the wait list in case spaces become available.
Georgian Bluffs also has both Earth Machine and Green Cone Outdoor Composters available from the Township Office to get you started on your journey to reduced food waste. The Earth Machine is a durable and easy-to-use composter that can handle a wide variety of food waste, turning banana peels, coffee grounds, and veggie scraps into rich, dark compost. The Green Cone Outdoor Composter breaks down not only your kitchen scraps but also items like meat, fish, and dairy with a specially designed solar-based heating process.
