Egg-citing News as Georgian Bluffs Welcomes Backyard Chickens

Heads up, Georgian Bluffs chicken enthusiasts! The Township of Georgian Bluffs has introduced a new by-law allowing ownership of backyard chickens. Thanks to enthusiastic community feedback, residents in residential zones can now keep up to six hens on properties larger than 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres). Sorry, roosters—this party is hens only!

Enjoy fresh, organic eggs every morning, employ your chickens in natural pest control, and enrich your garden with some of the best fertilizer around. Keeping backyard chickens is a fun way to learn about animal care, gather eggs from your backyard, and connect with neighbours, swapping chicken tips on the best hen care.

Your backyard hens must be for your personal use only, so no selling eggs or chickens, and no home slaughtering. Your chicken coops should be cozy but not crowded, with no more than 10 square meters of space and set at least 10 meters away from neighbouring homes.
