Doing Your Part: Curbside Collection Tips

garbage and recycling placed nicely at the curbside

The Township of Georgian Bluffs would like to remind everyone about the important rules of curbside collections to keep our community clean and green. Recently, you may have received a notice about oversized containers or overweight garbage bags which resulted in uncollected items at your curbside. This notice is simply a reminder of the rules that are already in place, ensuring that everyone's waste is collected safely and efficiently.

Curbside Collection Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines when preparing your garbage and recycling for collection:

  1. Lighten the Load: If you can easily carry your bag in one hand, its likely OK. If its heavy, split your garbage into 2 bags. In no circumstance should any bag or container weigh more than 22kg or 48 pounds – and if you can keep them well under 40, it is very much appreciated!
  2. Tag It Up: Each garbage bag must have its own tag to be collected.
  3. Four Bags Max: A maximum of four garbage bags can be placed at the curb each week.
  4. Unlimited Blue Boxes: You can place an unlimited number of Blue Boxes at the curb every two weeks. However, please ensure they are no taller than 2 feet and no wider than 18 inches. Oversized Blue Boxes and bags of recycling will be left behind.
  5. Bundle Your Cardboard: Cardboard should be neatly bundled in sizes no larger than 24 inches by 18 inches by 6 inches.

Waste Management’s collection staff will stop at more than 600 households each collection day – that’s 600 stops with up to 4 bags and multiple recycling bins at each one! Help them to help you by keeping it light, presenting it at the curb for as easy access as possible, and making sure the tag is shown clearly.

Waste Management will continue using “Oops tags” to let you know about non-compliant bags and bins. If your bags or bins do not meet the guidelines, your waste or recycling will not be collected. Please ensure you follow the rules to avoid this inconvenience. If your waste was placed out properly and you did not receive an oops tag, please report your missed pickup at www.georgianbluffs.ca/contactGB.
