Leak Detection

Undetected leaks can significantly increase your water bill. Even a small leak, like a leaky toilet, can waste up to 1,000 litres of water per day.

Use this simple trick to check for leaks:

  1. Remove the tank lid and add 10–12 drops of food colouring.
  2. Wait 15–20 minutes without flushing.
  3. If the water in the bowl stays clear, there are no leaks.
  4. If coloured water appears in the bowl, you likely have a leak due to a faulty flapper.

Steps to Fix a Leak:

  • Check the chain is not too tight, which may prevent the flapper from sealing.
  • Remove sediment around the flapper valve.
  • Replace the flapper if worn.
  • Ensure the water level is below the overflow tube.

Even new toilets can develop leaks, so it’s a good idea to check all toilets periodically.
