Leak Detection
Undetected leaks can significantly increase your water bill. Even a small leak, like a leaky toilet, can waste up to 1,000 litres of water per day.
Use this simple trick to check for leaks:
- Remove the tank lid and add 10–12 drops of food colouring.
- Wait 15–20 minutes without flushing.
- If the water in the bowl stays clear, there are no leaks.
- If coloured water appears in the bowl, you likely have a leak due to a faulty flapper.
Steps to Fix a Leak:
- Check the chain is not too tight, which may prevent the flapper from sealing.
- Remove sediment around the flapper valve.
- Replace the flapper if worn.
- Ensure the water level is below the overflow tube.
Even new toilets can develop leaks, so it’s a good idea to check all toilets periodically.
