Education and Engagement
At the Inter Township Fire Department (ITFD), we are committed to keeping our community safe not only through emergency response, but also by educating and engaging with our residents. Whether it's fire safety at home, our annual toy drive, or attending community events, we're here to help build a safer and stronger community.
Fire Safety Tips for Your Home
Fire safety starts with prevention. Here are some simple tips to keep your family and home safe:
- Install Smoke Alarms: Place smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of your home. Test them regularly and change the batteries at least once a year.
- Plan Your Escape: Make sure everyone in your household knows how to exit the house safely in case of fire. Have a designated meeting spot outside.
- Cook Safely: Never leave cooking unattended, and keep flammable items like dish towels away from the stove.
- Power Up Safely: Avoid overloading electrical outlets or extension cords, and unplug small appliances when not in use.
- Keep Heaters Safe: Keep heaters and space heaters at least 1 metre away from flammable materials like curtains or furniture.
By following these safety practices, you can significantly reduce the risk of a fire at home.

Annual Toy Drive – Supporting Our Community
Each year, the ITFD is proud to partner with the Salvation Army to help make the holidays brighter for local children. Our Annual Toy Drive collects toys for 100 children in our community, ensuring that every child has a reason to smile during the holiday season.
How You Can Help:
- Donate a New Toy: Bring an unwrapped toy to one of our drop-off locations during the holiday season.
- Spread the Word: Encourage friends and family to participate and help make a difference.
Stay tuned for more information on this year’s toy drive. Together, we can make the holidays magical for everyone in our community.
