Bounties and Livestock Claims
Georgian Bluffs supports local agricultural needs by offering bounties for the control of certain nuisance wildlife species. These programs help mitigate issues caused by coyotes and beavers, particularly when they impact livestock. Below, you'll find guidelines on eligibility and how to apply for compensation.
Livestock Damage Claims
If your livestock, poultry, or honeybees have been harmed by wildlife, you may be eligible for compensation through the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. This program, administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, provides financial support to farmers and livestock owners impacted by wildlife.
How to Make a Claim
-
Contact a Municipal Livestock Valuer
-
Site Visit and Documentation
During the visit, the Livestock Valuer will document the damage, gather any required photos, and complete the necessary application forms. -
Submission to the Ministry
The completed application, along with all supporting documentation, will be submitted to the Ministry within 10 business days of your initial contact with the Municipality.
For additional details, please refer to the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program on the Ministry of Agriculture and Food website.
Coyote Bounty
The coyote bounty is available to support livestock owners impacted by coyote predation. Compensation for trapping a coyote is only available if:
- You have lost livestock due to a coyote attack.
- You have completed a Livestock Damage Claim with the Township, as above.
To apply, fill out the Coyote or Wolf Compensation Claim Form and submit it to the Township. This form requires steps to be completed by the Livestock Owner, Livestock Evaluator, and Licensed Hunter or Trapper.
Beaver Bounty
The beaver bounty compensates licensed trappers for the removal of nuisance beavers affecting local waterways or causing property damage. To qualify for this compensation:
- The licensed trapper must remove the beaver tail and bring it, along with a completed Beaver Process Claim Form, to the Township Office.
- A municipal officer will verify the form and submit the claim for processing to the Couty of Grey. Trappers are responsible for disposing of the beaver carcass.
