Self Guided Waterfall Tour

Pack a picnic, grab your camera and embark on a self guided waterfall tour in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The Bluffs is fortunate to be home to three beautiful waterfalls, Inglis Falls, Indian Falls and Jones Falls. These three flows are relatively close to each other, and your desired route may vary depending on where your adventure starts and finishes or any other stops you plan to make in between. Here’s an idea of how a self guided waterfall tour in Georgian Bluffs might look.

Inglis Falls Conservation Area: If you’re travelling from south of Owen Sound, Inglis Falls Conservation Area will likely be your first stop, and one that will not disappoint. According to Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, this spot is known as "the best waterfalls in the area" and is most visited, anytime of year. At this site you’ll experience an 18-metre-high cascade, created by the Sydenham River meeting the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. A deep gorge is present at the base of the falls, caused by the power of the water. The conservation area has over 7 kilometers of trails, including access to the Bruce Trail, throughout the 200-hectare space. You'll have the opportunity to view a series of geological potholes and remains of a grist mill.

Jones Falls – Pottawatomi Conservation Area: After taking dozens (maybe hundreds?) of photos, it’s time to hop back in the car and journey on to waterfall number two. Jones Falls – Pottawatomi Conservation Area is a short ten-minute drive from Inglis Falls. The fastest route will take you north on Grey County Road 18. You’ll pass by the Township of Georgian Bluffs Administration Building before coming into Springmount and reaching your destination. Jones Falls cascades over the Niagara Escarpment to the Pottawatomi River. This Grey Sauble Conservation Authority managed space provides recreational activities throughout a 116-hectare piece of Niagara Escarpment land.

Indian Falls Conservation Area: Next you’re headed for Indian Falls! Indian Falls Conservation Area is north of Jones Falls by about ten minutes. This horseshoe-shaped waterfall draws locals and visitors alike, especially during early summer when it’s flow peaks. Pack the hiking boots as the trail to the falls is rugged, but well-worth the challenge. Your adventure doesn’t have to stop there. On route to Indian Falls you’ll pass Legacy Ridge Golf Club, if you’re so inclined for a quick round in between chasing waterfalls. Sarawak Family Park is also a short distance from Indian Falls, a great location to stop for lunch and enjoy views of Georgian Bay. And, even closer to the falls is Balmy Beach and Balmy Beach Boat Launch.

And there you have it; you’ve experienced the three beautiful waterfalls in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. If you’d like to continue on and enjoy waterfalls in some neighbouring communities, there are a total of eight waterfalls in Grey County, six of which are accessible in the winter months. In Georgian Bluffs, Inglis Falls and Jones Falls are winter-safe waterfalls but be sure to check Grey Sauble Conservation Authority before visiting in case there are any alerts or closures. Whether you’re a visitor or resident, we hope you love exploring Georgian Bluffs as much as we do!
